Tax Conferences
Share |

SAIT is involved in at least four tax conferences per year that provide high-level updates and in-depth analyses of the latest trends and developments in the field of taxation. These conferences benefit both our members and the tax community at large, and include the following:

  • Tax Indaba
  • The Annual Africa Transfer Pricing Summit
  • The Budget Breakfast

Tax Indaba

The Tax Indaba is now the largest annual gathering bringing together the entire tax community – tax practitioners, in-house tax staff members, government tax officials and tax academics. The Tax Indaba seeks to involve all tax professional bodies in South Africa, including SAICA, SAIPA, Law Society, IAC, CIMA, AT(SA), CSSA and ACCA. Every year, the Tax Indaba seeks to add new variety and talent to benefit tax professionals who are seeking to refresh their knowledge and to learn about new tax-related developments.

To ensure continued relevance, the event is put together with the assistance of the whole tax community. The five-day event is broken down to cover various topics throughout the week, allowing attendees to either choose to attend particular days involving their specialties or to attend the five-day event as a whole.

For more information about the upcoming 7th annual event, which will be taking place from 11-15 September 2017 at the Sandton Convention Centre, visit the Tax Indaba website (

The Annual Africa Transfer Pricing Summit

The Annual Transfer Pricing Conference has become the pre-eminent annual event for South African transfer pricing specialists to share ideas and update themselves on the latest transfer pricing trends. The event seeks to provide both a South African and regional perspective on the topic through transfer pricing experts from around the continent, including private practitioners and government officials from specific revenue authorities and from international organisations.

The 6th annual event is scheduled to take place from 15, 16 &17 November 2017.

Budget Breakfast

The Budget Breakfast occurs the Thursday morning following the annual Ministerial Budget Speech. The event informs delegates of National Treasury’s budget plans and how those plans impact the tax system and the economy in general. Prior speakers have included National Treasury officials, the Davis Tax Committee, leading economists, political figures, investment and economic advisors as well as tax professionals.

The 2017 Budget Breakfast took place on 23 February 2017. The main event was hosted in Cape Town with simultaneous sessions broadcast live to venues in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Durban. The 2018 event promises to be even bigger and better!

Section 240A of the Tax Administration Act, 2011 (as amended) requires that all tax practitioners register with a recognized controlling body before 1 July 2013. It is a criminal offense to not register with both a recognized controlling body and SARS.
